Titles
The title of a page is displayed in the title bar right at the top of the browser window. Almost all search engines consider the title when determining a document's relevance to a query and most search engines consider the title the most important element. In the page, the title is specified as an HTML element and placed in the header section of the page. For a details on what spiders are looking for when indexing pages and the varying importance of different elements.
A common element some web designers miss is one of the easiest ways to maximize positioning in search engines. In order to maximize your positioning simply include the keywords you would like to be found under in your titles, it is key to make sure that your keywords are relevant to your site information. Information that is placed on each of your pages is also important as both of these things will increase your page ranking with the search engine. Making sure your titles are correct will increase the traffic you receive by the search engine which will also increase the amount of visitors coming to your site. So while it might seem cute to have a catchy phrase remember the search engine doesn’t read it like the human eye does, the search engine is looking for relevant information.
When creating titles for your website, keep in mind that research shows people search the web for quite a few different types of products and are most often very specific in their search. If you’re showing a specific thing on your website make sure your titles and keywords are reflective of this. If you have a site based around ‘Pink Widget’ think about the words that a potential person of interest will use to search for in Google to find the information you’re presenting. How would you search the net for information on ‘Pink Widgets’?
The best thing you can do is to keep your titles simple and to get to the point quickly. Keep in mind that you don’t want to simply stuff your titles with keywords. They need to make sense other wise no one will be click on the link in the search engine if it has a collection of unrelated words. Also if you put too many keywords in your title your will also run the risk of decreasing their power and end up confusing the search engine, which you want to avoid whenever possible.
